Job Description: Optical Technician Lens Fabrication and Eyewear Manufacturing Job Summary: The Optical Technician is the core of the shop's manufacturing operation, responsible for translating prescribed optical parameters into precisely crafted eyewear. Working closely with the Optometrist, this role covers the full fabrication cycle from lens selection and cutting through to frame fitting, finishing, and quality verification. The Optical Technician ensures every pair of spectacles leaving the shop meets exact prescription specifications and the highest standards of craftsmanship. Key Responsibilities: • Prescription Interpretation and Lens Selection: Read and interpret optical prescriptions issued by the Optometrist, selecting appropriate lens blanks based on prescribed sphere, cylinder, axis, add power, and prism requirements. Choose lens materials including CR39, polycarbonate, high index, and trivex based on prescription and frame suitability. • Lens Surfacing and Cutting : Operate lens cutting and edging equipment to shape lenses to the exact dimensions of the chosen frame. Ensure precise optical centration, PD alignment, and segment height positioning for single vision, bifocal, and progressive lenses. • Frame Fitting and Assembly : Mount finished lenses securely into frames using appropriate fitting techniques for rimless, semi rimless, and full rim frames. Ensure lenses are seated correctly without distortion, stress, or misalignment. • Lensometer Verification and Quality Control : Use a lensometer to verify all fabricated eyewear against the original prescription, checking sphere power, cylinder power, axis, prism, and add power. Identify and correct any deviations before the finished product reaches the client. • High Prescription and Complex Order Handling: Apply specialized fabrication techniques for high power, high index, or prism prescriptions, working in close consultation with the Optometrist to manage decentration, base curve selection, and minimum blank size calculations. • Equipment Maintenance and Calibration : Maintain, clean, and calibrate all workshop equipment including edgers, lensometers, frame warmers, and measuring devices. Report any equipment faults or calibration issues promptly to ensure uninterrupted production quality. • Inventory and Lens Stock Management : Monitor and manage lens blank inventory, frame stock, and workshop consumables. Coordinate with the Sales Executive to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained to fulfil daily production requirements without delay. Eligibility Criteria: • Qualification: Diploma in Opticianry / Ophthalmic Technology or a related field from a Board of Technical Education in Pakistan, OR a Bachelor’s degree (BS/BSc) in Optometry or Vision Sciences from a recognized Pakistani university. Candidates holding a certificate in Optical Technology from a recognized technical institute registered with NAVTTC (National Vocational and Technical Training Commission) will also be considered. • Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in an optical workshop or optical dispensary. Demonstrated practical exposure to lens cutting, edging, surfacing, and frame fitting is required.
