Job Description: The Graduate Research Students will conduct original research in the Laboratory for Nanophysics under the supervision of a Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, or designated faculty collaborator. They will contribute to experimental, theoretical, or computational projects in nano-optics, spintronics, magnetism, ultrafast and terahertz dynamics, quantum materials, quantum sensing and measurement, quantum thermodynamics, AI, quantum algorithms, and related areas while fulfilling the academic and research requirements of their respective PhD or MS programs. Main Responsibilities • Conduct research aligned with the scientific objectives and assigned projects of the Laboratory for Nanophysics. • Review relevant scientific literature and develop a sound theoretical and technical understanding of the assigned research problem. • Design, perform, and analyse experiments, theoretical calculations, or computational simulations under the guidance of the research supervisor. • Contribute to projects involving nano-optics, spintronics, magneto-optics, ultrafast or terahertz spectroscopy, quantum materials, quantum sensing, quantum thermodynamics, AI, quantum algorithms, or related areas. • Assist in developing, constructing, testing, and optimising experimental setups, scientific instruments, computational tools, or research codes, where applicable. • Operate relevant laboratory instruments and follow established procedures for calibration, maintenance, data acquisition, and safe operation. • Analyse and interpret research data using appropriate analytical, numerical, or computational methods. • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, computational records, source codes, datasets, and other research documentation. • Prepare theses, research publications, technical reports, conference presentations, and other project deliverables. • Present research progress at group meetings, seminars, workshops, conferences, and project-review meetings. • Collaborate effectively with faculty members, research associates, technicians, students, visiting researchers, and external project partners. • Assist in mentoring undergraduate students and supporting shared laboratory activities, training programs, workshops, and outreach events. • Comply with laboratory safety requirements, research ethics, data-management practices, and institutional policies. • Complete assigned research milestones and academic requirements within the prescribed timelines. • Perform any other research-related duties assigned by the research supervisor, Principal Investigator, or Co-Principal Investigators. Note: These are contractual, PSDP project-based positions. Qualification: Minimum qualification required for these positions: Students already enrolled in relevant PhD or MS programs at LUMS are eligible to apply. Students from physics, electrical engineering, materials science, computer science, or other closely related disciplines may be considered according to the requirements of the assigned research project.
