Job Description: The Electronic Technician will support the installation, construction, operation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic and scientific equipment used in the Laboratory for Nanophysics. The position will involve supporting optical, electronic, vacuum, cryogenic, magneto-optical, ultrafast, and materials characterisation systems. The Electronic Technician will also assist in developing and integrating electronic circuits, control systems, data-acquisition systems, and research-grade scientific instruments, while observing all applicable electrical, laser, laboratory, and equipment safety requirements. Main Responsibilities • Install, operate, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory instruments, electronic systems, and associated scientific equipment. • Assemble, test, and integrate electronic circuits, power supplies, signal-conditioning units, control systems, sensors, detectors, and data-acquisition interfaces. • Assist in the design and construction of research instruments and experimental setups for nano-optics, spintronics, magneto-optics, terahertz spectroscopy, quantum sensing, and materials characterisation. • Support the installation, alignment, integration, and testing of optical and laser-based equipment in accordance with approved operating and safety procedures. • Assist with the operation and maintenance of vacuum systems, electromagnets, temperature-control systems, cooling systems, gas-handling systems, and other laboratory infrastructure. • Develop, assemble, or modify cables, connectors, circuit boards, equipment enclosures, and instrument-control interfaces as required. • Conduct routine preventive maintenance, diagnostics, electrical testing, and minor repairs to maximise equipment availability and reliability. • Support the commissioning and acceptance testing of newly acquired or locally developed research equipment. • Provide technical assistance and hands-on training to researchers and students in the safe and effective use of laboratory instruments. • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and service engineers regarding installation, warranties, repairs, preventive maintenance, and annual maintenance contracts. • Maintain equipment logs, circuit diagrams, technical manuals, calibration records, maintenance schedules, and service documentation. • Manage the inventory of electronic components, spare parts, cables, tools, consumables, and maintenance supplies. • Monitor laboratory utilities and infrastructure required for instrument operation, including electrical power, UPS systems, grounding, compressed gases, cooling water, and vacuum services. • Ensure compliance with electrical, laser, laboratory, and equipment-safety procedures and institutional policies. • Perform any other technical duties assigned by the Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigators. Note: This is a contractual, PSDP project-based position. Qualification: Minimum qualification required for this position: Diploma related to electrical, electronic, instrumentation, physics, or a related discipline with at least one year of relevant experience. Experience with laboratory instrumentation, electronic circuit assembly, data-acquisition systems, optical equipment, vacuum systems, or equipment interfacing will be preferred.
