Overview The Data Analyst is the anchor in-house resource for LAS's Data & Analytics function, focusing on Business Intelligence, reporting, and first-line data analysis. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining dashboards, standardizing organizational metrics, conducting data analysis, ensuring report-level data quality, and producing evidence-based insights that inform strategic and operational decisions. This position works across multiple departments—including Programmes, Litigation, Justice Hubs, Fundraising, Finance, Monitoring & Evaluation, and Leadership—to provide timely reporting, analytical support, and performance visibility. While the role collaborates closely with technical specialists responsible for data engineering, DevOps, and advanced AI systems, its primary focus remains business intelligence, stakeholder reporting, and organizational analytics. Position summary The Data Analyst (Business Intelligence) is responsible for transforming organizational data into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making, programme management, fundraising, and donor reporting across the Legal Aid Society. The role serves as the primary owner of LAS's business intelligence function, developing dashboards, reports, and analytical products that enable leadership and programme teams to monitor performance, measure impact, and improve operational efficiency. Working closely with programme, litigation, fundraising, monitoring and evaluation, and senior leadership teams, the position ensures organizational data is accurate, accessible, and translated into meaningful business intelligence. The role also supports the organization's AI and digital transformation initiatives by providing first-line analytical support and collaborating with technical teams responsible for data engineering and platform management. Key responsibilities 1. Business Intelligence & Dashboard Development a. Design, develop, maintain, and continuously improve interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations for leadership and programme teams. b. Build and manage dashboards covering programme performance, litigation, case ageing, intake conversion, beneficiary data, Justice Hubs, fundraising, donor reporting, Zakat, executive reporting, and operational KPIs. c. Ensure dashboards provide accurate, timely, and decision-ready information for organizational leadership. d. Develop standardized reporting templates and reporting frameworks across departments. e. Continuously improve dashboard usability, accessibility, and data visualization standards. 2. Data Analysis & Business Insights a. Conduct first-line data analysis to support organizational planning and decision-making. b. Perform ad-hoc analysis for Programme, Litigation, Fundraising, Finance, Communications, and senior leadership teams. c. Identify trends, anomalies, operational bottlenecks, and opportunities through data analysis. d. Produce analytical reports, briefing notes, executive summaries, and performance insights. e. Translate complex datasets into simple, actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders. f. Support evidence generation for organizational learning and strategic planning. 3. Reporting & Donor Support a. Produce reports supporting donor compliance and programme reporting requirements. b. Generate impact statistics, programme indicators, and evidence for donor reports. c. Support proposal development by providing organizational statistics, historical programme data, and analytical evidence. d. Develop reports supporting fundraising initiatives, grant applications, and institutional communications. e. Maintain consistency of organizational reporting metrics across departments. 4. Data Modelling & Quality Assurance a. Model reporting data within the organizational PostgreSQL data warehouse. b. Define, document, and standardize organizational KPIs and reporting metrics. c. Monitor report-level data quality and identify inconsistencies or anomalies. d. Trace reporting issues to source systems and coordinate with technical teams for resolution. e. Perform regular validation and quality assurance of dashboards and reports. f. Promote consistent reporting standards across the organization. 5. Data Governance & Access Management a. Manage user access and permissions for dashboards and reporting platforms. b. Ensure compliance with organizational data protection policies and role-based access controls. c. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive legal, beneficiary, and organizational information. d. Support implementation of organizational data governance standards. e. Promote responsible handling of personally identifiable information (PII). 6. AI, Innovation & Technology Support a. Support organizational AI initiatives by providing structured datasets and analytical insights. b. Collaborate with AI and technology teams on data validation and model performance reviews. c. Assist with impact analytics for AI-enabled programme initiatives. d. Utilize Python and modern analytical tools to improve reporting efficiency. e. Explore opportunities to automate recurring reporting processes. f. Stay updated on emerging Business Intelligence and analytics technologies. 7. Cross-functional Collaboration a. Work closely with Programme, Litigation, Justice Hub, Fundraising, Finance, M&E, and Leadership teams to understand reporting needs. b. Support organizational performance reviews through accurate reporting and analysis. c. Participate in data review meetings and performance discussions. d. Provide guidance to departments on reporting standards and dashboard utilization. e. Build strong working relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Requirements Education • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Information Technology, or a related field. • A Master's degree in Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline will be an advantage. Experience • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Reporting, or Management Information Systems. • Demonstrated experience designing dashboards using Business Intelligence tools such as Metabase, Power BI, Looker Studio, Tableau, or similar platforms. • Experience writing complex SQL queries and working with relational databases. • Experience supporting organizational reporting, performance monitoring, or donor-funded programmes will be preferred. • Experience working with NGOs, development organizations, or donor-funded projects will be an advantage. Technical Skills • Strong SQL skills for querying and analysing relational databases. • Experience building interactive dashboards and visual reports. • Knowledge of PostgreSQL or similar database platforms. • Proficiency in Python for data analysis, including Pandas and Jupyter Notebook. • Experience with Google Workspace and spreadsheet-based analysis. • Understanding of dimensional data modelling and reporting frameworks. • Familiarity with Business Intelligence best practices. • Basic understanding of AI-enabled analytics and workflow automation.
